At the end of 2007, 299 schools in 25 provinces or municipalities have been renovated, and over 100,000 children have benefited from our effort. Another 18 schools will be renovated in 2008. Through assistance of the Overseas Chinese Office and local Education Bureau of Chinese government, the Foundation researches and identifies schools that require immediate financial support. A three-way contract is entered among Shin Shin, provincial government, and local government. The Foundation visits the potential schools and existing beneficiary schools every year to conduct due diligence. The project is closely monitored to its completion.
Follow-up Programs
The ultimate goal of Shin Shin Educational Foundation is to improve the learning environment of all children, helping them receive the best education they deserve. In addition to rebuilding and remodeling deteriorated school buildings, Shin Shin has focused on providing on-going support to its schools. This includes enhancing the quality of education through monetary support, purchasing needed equipment, and providing programs to benefit the teachers and the students.

Shin Shin has also been collaborating with other organizations and foundations. Shin Shin has leveraged the monetary resources and expertise from these groups to optimize the effort of improving the educational environment of Shin Shin schools. For example, Shin Shin has teamed with the Cupertino Rotary Club and other Rotary Clubs such as Mountain View Club, Campbell Club, and Beijing Club. From the $18K grant in 2005, to the $58K grant in 2006, to the $60K grant in 2007, Shin Shin truly appreciates the funding from the Rotary organization. Furthermore, the professional expertise from Evergreen Foundation and SOAR Foundation helped Shin Shin accomplish its Literacy Program and Scholarship Program. The biggest challenge facing Shin Shin is raising enough money in 2008 to continue the aforementioned follow-up programs. We sincerely hope that the existing school donors can help with the follow-up programs for their own school, and others can recognize the importance of the quality of education for underprivileged children.
English Teachers Training Program
The purpose of this program is to provide English training to Shin Shin elementary school English teachers, and to help them improve their English teaching skills. Shin Shin believes that training the teachers is an important task with huge returns.
Literacy Program
The objective of the literacy program is to provide students in rural schools with broader access to books and information, and to cultivate the habit of reading and critical thinking, a life-long benefit. This program included book clubs and the formation of libraries.
Computer Lab Program
Shin Shin recognizes the importance of the Internet and the advantage of using computers in order to have access to other areas of the world. Shin Shin started the endeavor of equipping all schools with computers.
Scholarship Program
Through SOAR Foundation, 100 Shin Shin students received scholarships for four years, helping them through school until their graduation from junior high school.
