2004年在上海辦了為期九個月的英語種子教師培訓 計劃，有十七位湘西的老師參加，目的是他們能夠 培訓出更多的英語老師。 2005年至2007年在湖南常德師範學院舉辦為期八週 的暑期英語師資培訓。 2007年遼寧省也採取了常德師範學院模式在遼寧鐵 嶺師專舉辦暑期英語師資培訓班。 Although English is a required subject for third grade and above, there is no standard for English teachers in rural areas. Shin Shin believes that training the teachers is an important task with huge returns. The first program, held in Shanghai in 2004, was to educate teachers to train others. Seventeen teachers were selected and received nine months of training. Beginning in 2005, a more cost effective summer intensive program started at Hunan Changde Normal School. Liaoning province also used a similar model and started its own English teachers training program in the summer of 2007.

湖南英語師資培訓計劃 Hunan ETT Program

湖南英語師資培訓計劃從2005年到2007年共培訓了來自中國 十五個不同省份的近170名欣欣小學英語老師，使逾四萬名 小學生受益。國家教委從2003年起規定小學三年級以上必須開設英 語課程。然而，中國的小學校，尤其是偏遠貧困地區，英語 老師師資力量十分短缺。因此，美國欣欣教育基金會從2005 年開始實行湖南英語師資培訓計劃。在湖南省，市僑辦及市 教委持續的大力支持下，培訓班在湖南常德舉辦。 湖南英語師資培訓計劃每期為期八個星期，于每年暑假五月 至七月在湖南常德師範學院舉辦。2005年共有來自湖南、江 西、遼寧、河南、內蒙古五省的34名學員參加。2006年參加 人數增加了百分之六十五，增加到54人。2007年學員人數增 加到75人，來自內蒙古、甘肅、河南、河北、湖南、湖北、 江西、遼寧、陜西、安徽、黑龍江、吉林等十四個省。 Hunan English Teachers Training (ETT) program started in 2005. Since English is a required course in elementary schools in China for third grade and above, it is necessary for the English teachers to have proper English training. The purpose of the ETT program is to provide English training to Shin Shin elementary school English teachers, and to help them improve their English teaching skills. This eight week training program starts in early May and ends in early July. The training location is in Changde, Hunan province, China. Thirty-four teachers attended this program in 2005, 54 teachers attended this program in 2006, and 75 teachers from 14 provinces were trained in 2007.

學員都是來自美國欣欣教育基金會捐贈的欣欣小學的英語教師。 湖南英語師資培訓計劃的課程由湖南常德師範學院的專業講 師策劃和教授，開設有口語、聽力、閱讀、英語教學法等專 業課。此外還開設了教育實踐課，小學計算機運用基礎課和 小學英語音樂課。通過總結第一年的經驗，湖南英語師資培 訓從2006年起進行了以下改進和創新：一、吸收美國本土人 才資源，派義務助教從美國到湖南輔助教學，作為對常德師 範常駐老師的專業教學的補充。2006年和2007年參加輔助教 學的九名義務助教都是在美國生活十年以上的華人，精通英 語，了解美國文化和歷史。他們經過短期的培訓後來到常德 為學員進行口語、英文兒歌、美國文化、地理和歷史方面的 教學，同時他們還會利用晚自習的時間為學員進行課外指導 。二、讓暑假英語教師培訓與面向社會的國家公共英語等級 考試（PETS）接軌，採用國家公共英語等級考試第一級的 教材為精讀課本，為學員今後參加國家公共英語等級打下基 礎。三、收集優秀小學英語教學視聽教材分發給學員，讓學 員帶回學校教學。 The trainees came from Shin Shin schools nationwide, and received valuable skills to enhance the English learning experience of thousands of school children. This program received high remarks and excellent feedback from all participating teachers and schools. One year after the teachers were trained at ETT, one Changde Shin Shin school saw significant improvement in their English language skills. Eight students from that school participated in the National English Olympic Contest, and every one of them received award recognition. The school attributed the impressive outcome to the ETT program; they said that they could not have been able to obtain this level of achievement without ETT.

湖南英語師資培訓計劃的成功也使欣欣的英語師資培訓計劃 發展到其他地區。遼寧省在2007年暑假以類似的型式在鐵嶺 師專舉辦了暑期英語師資培訓班，28位老師來自於14個遼寧 的欣欣學校受益不淺。 湖南英語師資培訓計劃的實施很大的提高了欣欣小學英語老 師的教學質量，同時受訓老師也從美國義務助教活潑生動充 滿人文氣氛的教學中得到啟發，改變了他們以往刻板的教學 模式，多用啟發式教育，讓孩子們上學的興趣和互助性也大 大提高了。常德地區的鼎湖區逆江坪小學在參加湖南英語師 資培訓後大大提高了教學質量，不到一年的時間內，該小學 選送了八名小學生參加全國奧林匹克英語競賽，八名學生全 部獲獎（四名獲得全國一等獎和二等獎，四名獲得區一等獎 ）。他們激動的說參加湖南英語師資培訓以前從來沒有想到 會有這樣的成積。我們的義務助教也認為這是一生中不可多 得的經歷。2006年的義務助教Shawn Liu先生是在加拿大長 大的華人，曾任電腦工程師。參加完2006年湖南英語師資培 訓便繼續留在了中國，繼續他的英師教學事業。我們希望湖 南英語師資培訓讓所有的參與者都能在交流中提高，為更多 的孩子打開通往世界的門窗！ The success of the Hunan ETT also prompted a similar ETT program in Liaoning province held in the summer of 2007. Since 2006, Shin Shin has been recruiting bay area based overseas Chinese to volunteer as teachers' assistants for Hunan ETT program. Our TA volunteers facilitated the on-site ETT training and have served as a bridge between Shin Shin and Hunan ETT program. Five TAs participated in 2007's ETT program and four TAs participated in 2006's ETT program. Changde daily newspaper praised this program and the hard work of the TAs. ETT program has become a lifetime experience for many of our trainees as well as our TAs.
